I was positive that I couldn't do illumination back when I first started out, too. I was just going to strictly be a calligrapher and be done with it. Boy, was I ever wrong! Now I do both, and I like to think I do fairly well. I've been at it for almost 25 years, admittedly, so I've got plenty of practise in, but there's always room for growth with what I do. University of Chicago, huh? Local SCA group there is the College of Grey Gargoyles. Got some friends over that way who I could probably hook you up with. Beautiful campus - lots of very Mediaeval looking buildings. Check out in particular the John D. Rockefeller cathedral and Ida Noyes Hall across the street. I think - and I may be mistaken, but I can find out for sure, that Grey Gargoyles meets in Ida Noyes. Welcome to the list, and we hope you will find your time here among us to be educational and fun! We're a diverse list of many skills, talents and levels of abilities, from rank newcomers to experienced scribes. Don't ever think that anything is a "dumb question". We're here to share our collective knowledge with each other.
