You do not necessarily need a compass that takes a rapidograph, but one with an inking attachment. It looks like two little prongs with a screw on the side. This is a ruling pen attachment, and lots of inexpensive compasses come with them. You put in any ink or thinned paint, adjust the little prongs for the width of line you want (definitely practice first), and it will give you a perfect circle. You can also try a drafter's circle template; make sure it is for inking (this means it will have little bevelled edges where you draw), so your ink doesn't creep under the plastic template and ruin your work. These are cheap and many art supply stores have them, but there isn't as much variation in circle sizes as you can get with a compass. This way you can use your rapidograph, or any other writing tool to make circles. Hope that helps... The ink needs time to dry. But I'm also usually using one of the smallest nibs for outlining too. I've never had any luck with those inking pens - wind up with a big blot rather than a line. And I think a french curve or a flexible ruler is only good for fairly large circles and curves. My flexible ruler will only make circles larger than about 5 inches and even then you have to make sure the ruler itself is getting perfectly round since it's very easy to bend in a side. My Apprentice, Kris, did give you a good suggestion, but it also takes a bit of practice to use that type of liner. I have never been able to get my Rapidiograph pens to work after I painted... as the ink tended to want to spread out too much. I always use a fine liner brush and black gouache to outline after painting. It takes a bit of patience and practice, but looks better than getting the skipping and spreading look. I wonder what *our* work will be worth in, say, 600 years ;-)

P.S.  I bought 6 leaves from this seller a while ago and the transaction
went smoothly.  If you have the extra cash lying around, their
manuscript leaves are quite nice.  T

If you use a heavier hand, the tip of the pen just scraps up the paint, and that in turn will clog the tip of the pen and no ink will be distributed. If you so choose to use them, there are circle templates available with numerous sizes of circles ranging from extremely small to well over 2 inches in diameter. These really do help when trying to make crisp, even circles. Just make sure you put little bits of tape all over on the solid parts of the back of the template to hold it up off your paper. Otherwise any ink you lay down will bleed under the edge if it touches the paper, leaving a terrible mess to clean up. Good luck!
