What we call >prommissories in Atlantia are photocopied line drawings and calligraphy >colored in with markers. And what we in the Middle Kingdom call scroll blanks are beautifully done original pieces of illumination awaiting the calligraphy that makes them a scroll. Often scribes make a number of these in different styles and present them to the incoming Royalty upon Their ascension. I have not seen colored markers used on a Midrealm scroll in *many* a year. Greetings, I just stumbled across this book in an online search. It's due out April 2002. http://www.vandashop.co.uk/?f=itemdetl.php&p=55889 It just might be essential for those who do Middle Eastern type stuff. It's called: "Painting for the Mughal Emperor - The Art of the Book 1560 - 1600" by Susan Stronge. They are well-made and beautiful. As with all colors, check the manufacturer's lightfastness and permanency ratings on specific colors. Good luck saving. : ) I just got back from England so you want to talk broke... Frankly I was amazed that book focused on a time that was completely in period. Smiles, Despina To: "Hartley" Sent: Monday, February 11, 2002 10:02 AM Subject: Maciejowski Bible One of the pre-eminent picture-books of that century is the "Maciejowski Bible" a.k.a. "Medieval Miniatures". This is a book of about 283 illuminations which pictorially present a vast variety of information regarding the 13th century. This includes armour, clothing, entertainment, furniture, politics, religious practices, utensils, and weapons. This book (no longer in reprint) is occasionally available used at prices of about $125 and up. A little pricey for some medievalists, BUT now there is a website containing, amongst other things, pages from the MB. This website is new, it does not yet have all the plates from the book nor any captions but what it does show will be invaluable for the medievalist. The website's author (my adult son) will be putting the entire MB on the website with captions as time is available for such a daunting task. Hope you enjoy it. http://www.medievaltymes.com Seamus - ---------- If your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt. =================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, send email to with a blank Subject: line and unsubscribe scribes in the body of the message.
