Re: 2 questions I am wholly ignorant on if there are / were rules . I vaguely recall from school not to do it in reports but that might have been a personal teacher thing . I do know that in modern printing (newspaper ) that i have often been peeved by a word split between page one and page eight etc . I never did get around complaining to the paper though. johann On Sun, 06 Jan 2002 12:39:47 -0500 wyverns writes: > By no means a rule, but I have noticed somewhat of a trend regarding > whether words are carried onto the next line or not: If the scribes (snip)> > ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! As some of you from the Midrealm might recall, Baron Master Sir RanthulfR Asparlundr was going to offer a Scribal RoundTable at that event, which I had the good fortune to attend. It was terrific! He shared with us a lot of his work, materials, techniques, and we got to view, up close and personal, that GORGEOUS scribal desk he mentioned here on the list a while back! Ooooooh, Ahhhhhh, I want one!! If only I didn't live in such an already crammed full of books apartment!!! (Scribal books, wouldn't ya know!!) I am already at critical mass here and have no more room for anything!! Anyway, I brought my portfolio and shared it with folks, too. I think having something like this at the occasional event is a terrific idea because it gives us a chance to sit and share our knowledge about the Scribal arts and to show off each other's work, too. It would be nice for us to see each other outside the Scribe's Room at events and to sit around and chat with each other and learn from one another and look at various materials that people use. And also to learn various methods, like yesterday I learned a lot about pricking, among other things! Anyway, RanthulfR, thanks for doing that - I had a great time!! Maybe we ought to try something like that a few times a year, eh? Have you folks in other Kingdoms ever done anything like that? Oh, and I had to restrain myself yesterday walking through the merchants booths. Master Thomas the Mailer had some wonderful scribey books......................(sigh) But Christmas ate up too much of my money, so.....................I had to behave..............................oh, well, maybe some other time............................. ~Saradwen, who probably oughtn't to buy any more books, because I am at critical mass here.....I swear, one more book and this place is gonna explode!! =================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, send email to with a blank Subject: line and unsubscribe scribes in the body of the message. I've decided to base the illumination on "August" from Tres Riches (duc de Berry)... borrowing some recognizable elements from it, for a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" miniature. I realized this morning that in keeping the illumination so small, I was ultimately not only able to fit all the wording in on the scroll (comparable in length to last year's 12th Night scroll that I did for Jenna Childslayer), but nearly "burn through it" in record time... with only 2 1/2 "typos" out of approx 48 tiny lines of gothic text. Had I tried doing this at home, I probably would have wound up having my 12 days reduced due to interruption... it's so nice to spend time with people who understand the need for "quality time" with a scroll. Anyhow.... following the event this is being made for, I'll try to make it accessible to the web. Due to the fact that there are people on this list who are from the barony this is being given out in, I'm not going to say which event it is, lest I wind up accidentally giving out the name of the recipient and blowing the surprise. In the meantime, flying through this has given me more time to assist with the setup for the aforementioned archery event on the 26th.... Word of warning -- those planning on attending should 1) Bring waterproof boots (4' wide brook, and we are trying to build a sturdier footbridge, not rocks...), and 2) Mind the cowpies, you'll be walking through a pasture to the rest of the shoots. ;) (No, the cattle are not part of the shoot...) Again, thanks to everyone who helped me. ==------> Lady Kayleigh McWhyte, Mercenary Scribe (East) E.Frank, Long Island NY - --part1_14a.6da024d.296a8988_boundary Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Thank you, everyone who wrote to me, for the help with locating appropriate illumination containing hunting (archery/falconry) subject matter...
