The little dots usually stick well but sometimes there are spots in larger areas that don't stick. I've determined through much practice that it has to do with the way the size spreads as you paint it on. If you don't glop it on and pull it around but rather paint it on, letting your brush touch the undercoat, it doesn't cover as well and you need to do multiple layers of size to get it to stick at all. (glopping or having a thicker layer comes more naturally with the little dots. Also, it seems to shrink as it dries, as most things with illumination tend to, so the larger the area, the more gaps are likely to form as it dries. Again, the solution seems to be doing it in multiple layers rather than relying on a single layer of size to hold the gold. I usually double coat the dots, too, because othersise the glue pulls away form the outer edges of the dot and the gold only sticks to the very center part.) The good new is that if they are thin layers, you don't have to let one layer dry very long before you can add the next. The Pikestaff's (East Kingdom Newsletter) been semi-notorious for misprinting certain e-mail addresses, including the Signet Office's. If you're looking for the Tyger Signet, the correct e-mail to find Duchess Mistress Katherine Stanhope at is: rktatro@mindspring.com (The wilde.com address is no longer valid as of last month) The Deputy Signet, Lady Michel Almond du Champagne, is located at: lmacdonald@thielsch.com As for the maintenance of the inter-kingdom scribes' page, which lists the known Signets across the Knowne World, you'd need to contact RenScribe (who is on this list). Her Grace Katherine is not on this list, and I know how much of a pain it is to try repeatedly to contact the right people to get started in scribing. It took me a year, between bounced-back e-mails, getting discouraged (very few known scribes in this particular barony), then had the good fortune of dating someone in Ostgardr (neighboring province) about three years ago who knew a local Laurel, Mistress Aleksandra, who gave me the correct information and rekindled the will to get involved. Thanks for the contact info for East Kingdom Signet. I updated that link on the Cyber-scriptorium. I've been meaning to go in and make sure the information on the page is correct, but I can't seem to be able to find the time. Please, help me keep the information current. Check out the Interkingdom scribal contacts page and let me know if there are any more corrections that are needed. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/2963/contacts.html Thanks in advance Eibhlin ni Chaoimh AEthelmearc =================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, send email to with a blank Subject: line and unsubscribe scribes in the body of the message.
