This is simply speculation on my part, but consider that the ink that has penetrated the vellum has had less exposure to oxygen and therefore less chance to oxidize. I'm demo-ing SCA Scribal arts at the tiny Ren Faire in Raleigh North Carolina - the last weekend in March. The demo coordinators have asked that we do a real good job and put our best foot forward and be all professional about it - which I'm quite cool with. Trouble is... I normally do 12c Norman - I'm a T-tunic type of girl *sigh*. What "station" would a female scrivener have had in Elizabethan times? oooh, *Did* any women make their living doing calligraphy then at all? Were they religious or secular? If I'm gonna take a stab at being authentic, what should I wear? Webpages and off-line advice gratefully accepted.
