Re: [scribes]: wax seal question ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 05 Mar 2001 22:59:25 -0800 From: "Laura F. Jenkins" Subject: Re: [scribes]: wax seal question Tetchubah is one of the expert wax pourers in Caid :) In addition to what she wrote, we used to take a hammer and break the sealing wax into smallish chunks as it seemed to melt better/faster that way. There seems to be a just right temperature when it comes to melting the wax, not hot enough and it doesn't pour well onto the scroll and too hot it pours out too fast and too thin, but you can practice in advance. It is possible to pour out seals onto wax paper for practice. The seals peel easily off of the wax paper and you can remelt them or keep them as seal "cookies". What worked best for us was to mark the spot on the scroll where the seal was going to go with a small x so that the wax pourer had a point to aim for. We used to do the seals in a team of two, one person to pour the wax, the second to affix the seal. It was fun :) cheers, aliskye Lyondemere, Caid Carolyn_Richardson@cch.com wrote: > I'd recommend melting the wax in a small ladle over a clean heat source if > you can (natural gas stove or propane heater, not a candle).
