I received a message from majordomo@castle.org telling me about the scribes list. I must have skipped through it before and missed all the useful info .... As for who I am, my mundane name is plastered all through the headers and .sig :) , but my society name is still just Jean-Paul. I have yet to finalise my persona, suffice to say it will be southern French from ~1000 AD. I think the the Carolingian minuscule script has had some influence here *grin* Apart from scribing, which I have started developing my interest in in the last couple of months, I do a little bit of everything. I would like to try heavy fighting, but that's in the future ;P I make garb *occasionally*. I have made enough to get by and am still stoked over the velvet doublet I finished for the Championship event late last year. I dance, I play the violin even more occasionally, I sing, er, I do not sing! By request *grin* I scare cats and break windows at 100 paces. Current projects are learning to illuminate, it's a challenge, but a good one, and making self bows, both of which are keeping me busy busy busy. I'm personally >thisclose< to dumping this list because it's the ONLY one of the
30+ I'm on that I have to do that with, and I'm tired of replying to something
only to realize later that I've sent it to one person and not the group.

Effingham

In fact, I just hit "send" and almost sent this to JP, and would have had the
spell-checker not flagged the ">thisclose<" and I saw the "to" line.

OH NO! Effingham, please don't leave us, we need you.  Your brain is too full for you to go off and not let us pick at it anymore.  Please don't go......

Dammit, this is aggravating!!

Ah, but is it more agrivating than gold stuck to the bottom of kitty cat paws?  or ink that won't flow, or discovering that you have to regrind your paint because it *wasn't* as fine as you'd like? or?

Please stay.

I responded to Gwendoline off list with a copy of the text from the handout I use when I teach period paint making. I will happily send it to anyone who requests it, but it's rather long to post to the entire list. I also recommend the site www.eggtempera.com Follow the link for "New to the Medium" then the link to "Preparing the pigments" for step by step instructions with pictures. I also noticed that they have added a link to pigments from the main page. The page has a list of safety precautions and information on the toxicity of individual pigments. Another good source for information is one of the "Artists' Handbooks". Check the painting section of just about any bookstore or library.
