I recommend you contact him directly... he is very friendly and a nice person to talk to. Anna de Byxe asked: Does this work with fake metal gold leaf? I apologize to the List and especially to you Master Johannes if I have unintentionally antagonized you or diminished your viewpoint. There is no right or wrong way to create a scroll, and one of the things I have always appreciated about the scribes list is the opportunity for people with different opinions and attitudes to share them, and occasionally cause me to rethink my own positions. I hope that this will continue to be that sort of an open forum, without fear that you will be told you are doing something wrong or inappropriate. After long silence, Anastasia da Firenze Lochmere, Atlantia Thank you Anastasia for this response, ditto + ....... I think that it is important to bear in mind that art is a ~process~ one in which, best case scenario, we can continually strive for growth and excellence which could take 2 years or 20 years to achieve. It would be difficult to learn all facets all at once, unless you could put your non-scadian life on hold and dedicate yourself to nothing but the scribal arts for, oh say 2 years ?!? Not a chance, eh? I would opt for gentle learning always, especially as the teacher. Some recipients love the whimsy because it was personalized to them which is extra work for the scribe. Some recipients love exact replicas of period pieces. I would lean toward what would the recipient appreciate the most and if you do not know - go conservative, go period. Not everyone plays SCA in the same intensity mode, I have met some pretty intense authenticity types who are a bounty of knowledge and I have met others who consider the SCA to be recreational/social (less serious) and every variation in between and my opinion is that we need a safe haven to bring questions, frustrations and joys of scribing to, so...lets be kind to those who are baby-stepping and offer a hand for support now and again, as this has been my experience in scribing for my kingdom. 1st year scribe time =380 hours, 2nd year of scribing time = 500 hrs, 3rd year = I'll let you know next year ;) Antoinette of Stormsport Aethelmearc __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
