And for teaching classes, Greetings unto all learned and gentle scribes, It is my honor to facilitate(got talked into) the arrangement of the Scribal track of classes for the upcoming (June 1-3, 2001) Known World Heraldic Symposium in the Barony of Nordskogen (Mpls/StPaul metro area). I have 12 class sessions to fill and would like to offer them at three different difficulty levels: Beginner(little or no experience) Intermediate (have done at least a couple of scrolls) and Advanced (usually you know when you are here) Ideally I would like to see 4 classes at each difficulty level and 2 of each in calligraphy/ paleography and 2 in illumination/ technique, but I'm open to suggestions. One limitation is that we may not offer hands on classes due to site concerns, sorry. Still interested? Contact me with a brief description of what you would like to teach. Not able to teach but want to contribute? Articles to be published in the proceedings are also welcome, again contact me with a brief description. Timelines: Teachers need to be selected by January 1. Briefs of their classes are due by February 1. All articles to be published in the proceedings due by April 1. Please realize these deadlines must be strictly adhered to if we are to have this information published on time, being late may very well mean you get bumped, sorry. I may be contacted in any of the following means for questions or volunteers, thank you for your time, Herr Gevehard von Baden gevehard@rconnect.com Garret Bitker pobox 306 Walnut Grove, MN 56180 (507)859-2885 you may leave a message and I will call you back =================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, send email to with a blank Subject: line and unsubscribe scribes in the body of the message. The examples I promised are on my web site... http://www.netusa1.net/~meistern/whitework&vine.html They are a little grainy, and they do take a little while to load up, but I think they will help those of you who are fairly new and don't know the how the two styles differ. Edinboro University is near where I live and their oversized books are a bounty for illuminators. I have looked through several dozen books and have ordered my favorites. I spend one 2 hour/artist date alone in the library each month. It's the mental equivalent of a bubble bath for me. Sometimes, I'll find one or two examples in a book that I just love so I withdraw the book (most Universities will allow you to check out books with a driver's license or try to inner library loan them from your local public library) and take it to a local color copy store and have copies made of my favorites far cheaper than buying all the books that I want...well, at least until I become independently wealthy ;) I keep mine in clear covers in a 3 ring binder with the book ISBN, library ID # and any other pertinent info I made want later. Also, ask your scribal friends if you can peruse their books, I found Catherine of Cleeves, this way. Have fun, Lady Antoinette of Stormsport, Aethelmearc __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! If anyone has access to the Stroganoff Exhibit as it tours the US, it has a 12 foot Russian Scroll as part of it. The script is so tiny that it gave me eyestrain just to try to see it. The illuminations are very nice. H.L.
