I am a student working on my own illuminated manuscripts for a grant (possibly you remember my initial email from October or something....), but am also part of a project at my university that hopes to digitize some of the rare books in its libraray vault. One is a 15th century French book of hours, which it is my job to transcribe and (hopefully) figure out more specifics as to its use and place of origin. As you might imagine, this has been an absolutely fascinating project, and Wieck's books have been extremely useful in the process. My husband is the author of (another) grant that has allowed this whole library project, and is the photographer as well, so if interested, you can take a look at some prelim pictures of the BoH I am working on: two kinds of film on the first page of the Hours of the Virgin, Vespers, 48v. http://www.willamette.edu/~jcsparks/nwacc/photo_test.htm Julie Sparks ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 09:58:51 +0200 From: Anna Troy Subject: [scribes]: Intro Hi all! Since I'm sure I'm going to stay on the list a while again I'll thought I'd introduce myself to those who don't remember me. :-) I'm Lady Anna de Byxe from the Principality of Nordmark(Sweden) in the kingdom of Drachenwald. I've mucked about with calligraphy and illumination for quite sometime now but it's only been during the last couple of years that I've actually made some scrolls, due to the excellent Gro Torstensdotter who opened a Scriptorium in our shire of Aros. I like trying different periods since my taste goes in stages. Right now I'm in a 14th century stage after having being tied up in Irish knots for a long time. I'm also looking into early Textura. :-) Oh my favorite instructional book on calligraphy is "The Art of Calligraphy" by David Harris.
