I was therefore wondering if there is any place on-line where you can buy lapis and malachite in it's raw, unpolished state. I'm also interested in if anybody has made their own copperoxid green, what did you do, leave some pieces of copper in lemon-juice or the like? :-) yours truly, Anna de Byxe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 09:33:49 -0400 (EDT) From: Eldred@concentric.net Subject: Re: [scribes]: Celtic colours / Meehan books Greetings from Eldred! I'm not an expert, but I have noticed that the lighting for some of the photos in Backhouse's book seem a bit dark. I do have some slides of the Lindesfarne Gospels, and I will compare them this weekend and give you a better answer.... I have another thought (I don't have the Meehan handy) is the cover art for the Meehan books *by* Meehan, or are the covers taken from period manuscripts that are the basis of Meehan's work? In the later case, you automatically have your answer.... Anyone know? [Shameless plug alert!] At the Nottinghill Collegium this coming weekend (7/18, Central, SC), I will be presenting a survey of period illuminations. These illuminations are from period manuscripts that include the Lindesfarne Gospels to 15th century Bibles and manuscripts. There will be color slides, and I will be handing out notes that have some illustrations. I've been scheduled at the hour of 9 in the morning (despite my protests)--please don't let me talk to an empty room! 8^) In service, Eldred AElfwald Canton of Falcon Cree Barony of Nottinghill Coill Kingdom of Atlantia ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V2 #157 *****************************
