Dunno where I will be, though I am sure to be at court Saturday and will stop by the Arts encampment and Laurel's Prize. And shopping -- must go shopping. Alas, I have other obligations on Sunday (first class of a Goldwork embroidery group correspondence course), and must work the rest of the week. Sorry to miss most of the fun! I'll be there for the entire war (Tuesday on), and I'm sure many of us would love to meet you (and quiz you about the cool supply shops in London!) :-) It might be easiest if you let us know when you'll be at the war. I'm sure we could meet at the arts camp. I look forward to meeting you! Morgan Athenry Dreiburgen, Caid Christina Nevin wrote: > > Saluti! > > Well next week I visit the US for the first time. I don't know why but I find that in our little "boon docks" town more than the Crayola stuff. (snip)The carryall stuff may be more durable than sculpy. I don't know. Rebecca Sacred Stone, Atlantia Model Magic from Crayola is nothing like Sculpty. The Crayola product is spongy and can bounce when air dried. Sculpty is hardened in the oven and can be brittle when dry. I can see where the Model Magic would make a cusiony handle for a pen or brush. I was hoping to get out there Friday afternoon and stay thru Sunday afternoon, but that's beginning to look increasingly unlikely. I should be there at least on Saturday - like Eowyn, I have to work the rest of the week and my boss is not inclined to even give me Friday afternoon off (yet). Tetchubah of Greenlake ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Oct 1999 17:08:53 -0400 From: Debra Kozak Subject: [scribes]: Crayons and Wax Tetchubah of Greenlake, Caid state that, "Pastels are also made with wax impregnated with pigment, although it's much softer than your average Crayola, and I think they also have some oils in them." Actually, soft pastels are made with pigment, a binder such as gum tracanth, and sometimes precipitated chalk. The "French chalk" that has wax in it is conte' crayon. Conte' crayons handle very much like pastels although many layers will begin to get a waxy buildup. Soft pastels (as opposed to oil pastels) are very creamy or buttery in texture and retain a matte surface even when layered heavily. Drawings by Da Vinci, Durer, etc., were most likely created with a predecessor of conte' crayons.
