At Pennsic I bought some stuff from the Gabriel Guild. I got a gilding kit, some walnut ink (I already have some oak gall ink), some black stick ink and some cynnabar red stick ink. I got a mixing plate for it, and I bought two smallish pieces of real animal parchment. I have to check and see if the parchment has been readied for use, or if I have to do anything to it. If I have to ready it myself, what do I do? I have some sizing somewhere in the house, given to me by an apprentice. How do I tell which side to use, is there a "smooth" side and a "rough" side, and I use the "smooth" one? I'm a little sheepish about asking these questions since I'm a c & i laurel, but when I was working hardest at c & i, the availability of real pigments and supplies was very very slim (and much much more expensive than now), so I used modern materials. I have a couple of very special projects I'd like to do, and I'd like to work them with the real things. Being a perfectionist, I know I am going to want to "do it right the first time", but I also know I'm going to have to experiment a bit with the materials to see how they work and to get into practice again. I did not buy a burnisher at Pennsic. What suggestions could you offer me on something that wasn't as expensive but would do the same job? I don't necessarily want to make one, I'd rather buy one. I know I've asked a lot of questions here...and I apprenciate your time and indulgence and look forward to some helpful suggestions! I don't necessarily want to make one, I'd rather buy one. http://www.hideandfur.com/ sells a great variety of animal teeth - and I seem to recall a large canine tooth is a preferred component of a burnisher? Greetings all! From Lady Brandwyn Alston of the Rift (Barony of Mari= nus
Scriptorium):
A few weeks before Pennsic, Lady Rebecca, Atlant= ia's Clerk Signet,
announced the development of a new site attached to the= Atlantian Scribe's
page. This new site will be an area where Chronic= ler's and Scribe's can go
to get links to other sites that have copywrite f= ree clipart that they can
use in their publications. These links will (hopefully) have a brief
description of the type of art that will be = found at that site, and if there
is a publication disclaimer or not.
= = Lady Rebecca has graciously allowed me to head up this enormous project. =
So I am looking for some help from you. Could you please send me (privately,
please don't tie up the bandwidth) any web sites you know= of, and possibly a
short description of the type of art found there. We = are looking for
anything in period or pertaining to the SCA that could be= reprinted in an SCA
publication.
I will be weeding out duplica= tes and checking out each link to be sure of
content and copywrite disclaimers. (If anyone would like to help with that,
please contact= me privately.)
Besides links, we plan to take some scanners to events= in Atlantia and
scan in artists works that they would not mind having reprinted in SCA
newsletters. Any person who would like to contribut= e their art may contact
me as well.
We are tentatively planning = to go live with the site at the end of this
month, but that may be pushed b= ack to allow more time to gather artwork.
If you have any questions, o= r to send links, you can contact me at
brndalston@aol.com. If you want to= snail mail some art to me, contact me via
email and I will give you m= y snail mail address. Please feel free to
distribute this posting to interested parties. You can also contact the
Atlantian Kingdom Clerk= Signet, Lady Rebecca at scribe@atlantia.sca.org.
Thank you so much= , in advance, for your interest and response to this
project.
