It truly is a joke because, for one it is not common practice here in the Outlands, as far as i know, for scribes to be paid for their work, and secondly I would not feel comfortable being paid for my work. I do scrolls because I find the work relaxing and it provides me an excellent way to continually push myself to higher levels of achievement. Like several of the other arts I do, I do this because I enjoy it. So far i have been able to hold to my convictions, with one exception, where I gave in enough to be reimbursed for the materials for making a diplomat portfolio style scroll case. (A long story. . .) I meant no disrespect of the customs of others. Noemi >> Noemi, I don't think that anyone felt disrespect.......in some views, ours is the only art in which no money changes hands for goods/services received......The College of Arms even charges a processing fee. Banquet autocrats don't pay out of pocket to do feasts, etc......At the completion of 5 interlocking scrolls, I was given armour out of respect for the time and materials put into them. I have also received a pavilion, a damascas eating knife for my lady and my favorite....a box of fine cigars. The cigars came from the same person who gave me the pavillion she was so happy with the scroll(it's my personal fave). Although, there is a pair of matched Flemish scrolls that will always hold a special place in my heart (but that is another story ) Some of these scrolls and gifts were contracted (a very medieval practise) others were gifts.... -JimBear ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V2 #39 ****************************
