I shall be camping with House du Darregonne, on the Serenghetti. If anybody has specific requests, or additional ideas, I welcome comment, either here, or via private missive. We usually have a pretty large camping area so I would welcome the opportunity to assist in hosting a "Scribe's Tea" or some such thing. We could all bring our portfolios and veritable wealth of knowledge and ideas and share a lovely afternoon of "shop talk". I second Philem's idea! We have quite a few talented scribes who camp with us anyway, including His Grace Duke Dagan Du Darregonne himself, the head of our Household, who holds a Willow in Calligraphy and Illumination (betcha y'all didn't know THAT about him!). So, yeah, dig it! Good gentles, I have a site URL that you might all be interested in viewing. It is: http://www.ferrini.com It is the Web Site of the Bruce Ferrini Gallery, located right here locally to me (I live in Kent, OH). Mr. Ferrini's Gallery is located in the Kenmore area of Akron, OH (sort of south and west Akron area). It is an old church and Mr. Ferrini is quite an interesting man. He came to an event that we held in November and his business mgr., Mr. John Lawrence, came to our recent Northern Oaken Regional Arts and Sciences Faire. Both events at which Mr. Lawrence and/or Mr. Ferrini attended gave attendees a chance to get "up close and personal" with actual Mediaeval Manuscripts, as Mr. Ferrini is only one of a handful of people in the world who sell Manuscripts. Mr. Lawrence and Mr. Ferrini were mighty impressed by the expansive knowledge of manuscripts and manuscript production that SCAdians have, and they enjoy coming to our events to sell and display their mansucripts and also to talk to us about what we know. Mr. Ferrini himself told me that he learned more in spending one day amongst SCAdians than in all his years hanging around academicians, and I told him, "Why, Mr. Ferrini, that's because we DO this stuff -- we don't just read about it!" I'll let you all know next time we have an event at which Mr. Ferrini or one of his employees is working. It is such a treat to be able to get up close and personal with REAL stuff -- and NOT behind some climate controlled security glass case with a museum guard glaring at the fact that you are pressing your nose to the glass just to get a better look at the book behind the case! You can see how high the gilding was raised, you can see the brush strokes and pen strokes and really understand just how these things were done! Mr. Ferrini and Mr. Lawrence also have delighted in how enthusiastic we are as an audience and how good our questions are during lectures that they give with their visits. We all tend to ask lots of technical questions and Mr. Ferrini at one lecture sort of said, "Well, I know this stuff more from the business end: you all know more about the production of these books than I do!" But he, his son (who broke the case of the stolen Vatican manuscripts!) and Mr. Lawrence are a delight to spend time with and talk to! (Mr. Ferrini's son became enamored of watching the fighting and one gets the impression he would very much like to don armor himself and go out and fight! A possible recruit there???) So check out this site and have fun! Lady Saradwen Ariandalen Marche of Gwyntarian Midrealm ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V2 #15 ****************************
