In a top corner of the back, in pencil, I put by full SCA name and 'another fine product of Ponte Alto' (unless I was doing a scroll in an official capacity such as Scrivner Royale). In a lower corner I put the timeframe/place and source of the style, and basic materials used. Sometimes I remember to put mundane name and contact information, especially if it is going to someone outside the local group. In later period, I understand (from verbal discussions and looking over someone's shoulder at quotes in some book) that it was 'traditional' to sign ones scribal work (perhaps on a back leaf of a book) with cautions to the recipient such as 'anathema to any who treat this wonderful work of art with disrespect' or 'as you treat this beautiful work of my hands, so may you be treated on judgement day' (roughly translated). On occasion, I have been known to use more 'positive' and 'humble' versions thereof, such as 'Blessings upon those who treat this work of my hands with the respect it is due,' on the back with my full name. - --Enid ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 1998 16:41:26 -0400 From: wyverns Subject: [scribes]: Antiphonal and such Does anyone know a good source on translitterating the various sorts of period musical notation? I have bits of very basic translitteration for one kind of music notation from a course handout, but that's all I've been able to find. - --Enid ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V1 #58 ****************************
