And you can still see through it. The illumination was done by Baroness Francesca from a neighboring baronry, it was perfect, the whole scroll beautiful, wonderful, lovely, etc, etc. Lots of great minitures of folks from the newly formed barony. The scribes signed their scroll by placing themselves in the last miniture looking thru a window at the new Baron and Baroness asleep in bed. And good medieval fashion, you could tell that they were without their clothes under their covers. My favorite overheard comment was "Is that Thorvald and Francesca looking in the window?!" This was a great scroll. I have been keeping a list of interesting sayings so that I have something to practice between scrolls. I just heard a good one from "Brother Cadfael" tonight: Between friends, there is no oweing. That sounds pretty good to me. Does anyone else have any "practice quotes" they'd like to share? It has two small rubber strips on the back to keep it from sliding on a slanted worktable. I got mine from Pendragon catalog, but don't know for sure if they are still selling them. Mine is 18" long. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Meisterin Katarina Helene von Schoenborn, OL Shire of Narrental (Peru, Indiana) Middle Kingdom ~~ Vert, a unicorn head couped close Argent, crinned and armed Or, and in sinister, a gore Or ~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 1998 01:05:53 EST From: Luiseach@aol.com Subject: Re: Re: [scribes]: measuring -Reply In a message dated 02/11/98 10:32:38, Ellsif wrote about ruling paper: << I decided what line spacing I wanted for the nib I was using, used my computer to produce lined paper of exactly the right spacing, taped a couple sheets of this together to get something wide enough to show on both sides of the scroll page, and then used a ruler and this cheat sheet to mark my lines. Much easier than the measured tick-marks and more likely to be correct when it's done.>> I've done the same thing and agree that it is both easier and more accurate than measured tick marks. For hands that have uneven line spacing (e.g. Carolingean) I put some sort of a mark on the body-space line so I won't end up skipping 2 lines and writing in my ascender space by mistake. I also label the computer lined sheets as to what pen size and what hand they are for. Luighseach ------------------------------ End of scribes digest V1 #57 ****************************
