Do you know where I might obtain credentialing for scribing a Kosher Jewish Torah? I've asked around here in the Dallas Jewish Community and haven't got very far. Ideally, I would like to meet an actual Hebrew Scribe who has scribed a genuine Kosher Jewish Torah. Please advise - --part0_887073345_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Feb 1998 22:48:25 -0500 From: "June Lathrop" Subject: Re: [scribes]: leftover gold According to the instruction sheet I have from the Gabriel Guild, you grind the gold in a porcelain or glass pestle with a drop of honey and a pinch of salt till it looks like mustard & no flakes show. Then, to rinse off the honey & salt, fill a glass or glazed bowl with 1-2 qts distilled water, rinse the mortar in it, making sure the mixture is completely dissolved. Let it settle overnight, then carefully pour off excess water as much as possible without disturbing the gold. (They recommend a turkey baster to help remove the water) Then let the rest evaporate. Scrape out gold dust, add 3 drops liquid gum arabic & stir well. It takes about 1/3-1/2 book gold to make one tablet. I haven't tried this yet, I have just about enough scraps to give it a try. When I do, I'll let you know how I make out with it. Juliana Stafford, Rusted Woodlands, East >It's possible to grind it to powder for shell gold but *not* easy.
