Greetings from Bronwen
I said that I would write some notes tonite - but got on the phone with my
Contingency Deputy and talked for like an hour and a half
It was fun :-)
But...
I gotta go to bed - so this is my only note and its short
I'll elaborate more tomorrow (hopefully)
Rubber Cement is not an "archival" quality product.
(in other words - there is no such thing as archival rubber cement)
we need to stop using it for applying SEALS to scrolls
besides not being archival
it does other nasty things as it ages and seals usually end up falling off
or sliding down from their original position.
Thora, the past Northern Royal Scribe for Owain and Wren turned us on
(during 12th night scriptorium) to another product for using to apply seals
to scrolls.
I can't recall the exact name at the moment - something like "acrylic
medium" with an equivalent being PVA (which is NOT the same as Elmer's white
glue)
The product is archival - the seals adhere better - and they stay where they
are supposed to.
I brought this up at 12th Night Curia - and there was much agreement that we
ditch Rubber Cement :-)
A lot of people have had bad experiences with it I understand
I'm going to look into the exact product and will write more later about it
The one thing that Thora did say, was that scrolls needed to be prepared a
little bit more in advance (not 10 minutes before the scroll is to be given
out - but more like a half an hour to an hour before) - good planning will
help with that
So, that's all for tonite
YIS
