Hello fellow painters,
I am updating my paint box, and was going to compile a shopping list
from all of your suggestions here, and ran into a bit of a problem...
well two actually...
1. I was under the impression we were trying to steer away from anything
less than "A" permanence, with a very few exceptions (yes?? no??)
2. Several colors on your lists are discontinued

So I thought I would update the list of colors you all offered up...

This is for Winsor Newton only...
These are all 'A' or 'AA' unless otherwise noted.
The S# is series 1 - 4, 4 being the most expensive (as an example at
Aron Brothers series 1 is in the $6 range and series 4 is in the $20 range)
'P' in front of the name indicates that some of you think these are more
period than others
'D' indicates a discontinued color followed by its replacement

Spectrum Yellow S#1
'P' Cadmium Yellow Pale S#4
'P' Permanent Yellow Deep S#1
'D' Golden Yellow - now Cadmium Yellow S#4

Spectrum Red S#1 no white work? turns pink??
'P' Cadmium Red S#4
'P' Permanent Alizarin Crimson S#3
'D' Cadmium Red Pale - now Cadmium Scarlet S#4
'D' Grenadine - now Spectrum red S#1 + Flame Red S#1

Light Purple - permanence B S#2 - Nice Blue-purple that can be lightened up
Spectrum Violet - permanence B S#1
'D' Purple Lake - now Light Purple + Black

Primary Blue
'P' Ultramarine S#1
'P' Indigo S#1
'P' Cobalt Blue S#4

Brilliant Green S#1
'P' Sap Green S#2 (my preference is the M. Graham. It's a little
"brighter")
'P' Oxide of Chromium S#2
'P' Viridian S#3 (I have all three brands of this color and dislike all
three)
'D' Forest Green - now Permanent Green Middle S#2

Naples Yellow S#1
Yellow Ochre S#1
Raw Sienna S#1
Gold Ochre S#1
Burnt Sienna S#1
Venetian Red S#1
Red Ochre S#1
Raw Umber S#1
VanDyke Brown S#1
Burnt Umber S#1

WN has also added a few new colors that could be a great addition, but
all I have to go by so far is the online chart.
If anyone has seen these... what do you think???

Brilliant Purple 'B' S#2
Winsor Red 'A' S#3
Perylene Maroon 'A' S#3
Perylene Violet 'A' S#3
Perylene Black 'A' S#3 (it has a hint of green)
Winsor Violet 'A' S#3
Naples Yellow Deep 'AA' S#1

There are a few others, but I don't think they are period enough for us.

Well, there you go. Hope this helps someone besides me!!
