I've a new question or maybe a set of questions
1) Have you ever motivated someone to become a new scribe? a new illuminator?
a new calligrapher?
Yes
2) If your answer to #1 was yes, what did you do or say to get that person
interested?
I don't recall exactly. I think I just pestered her into it. ;-)
3) Do you have any other ideas about how to get people who have never done it -
involved in scribal activities?
I believe many people don't think they are artistic enough to do scribal. I know
that I was really unsure of my ability when I first started. I think it's
important to emphasize that one does not have to start with Kingdom level
scrolls/work. There are many other, less stressful, places to start.
4) What keeps people who do scribal stuff interested in continuing to do
scribal stuff?
Seeing the finished work. I am always amazed that it turned out so nice. Knowing
that the work is appreciated. Seeing the tears in a recipient's eyes or getting the
thank you from them. Each piece teaches me something new.
5) Do you think that uninitiated people think that scribal work is a mystery?
To some it probably is. I still think it's a mystery how our medieval counterparts
came up with some of the things they did. Really, who was the first person to discover
the use of earwax for whatever it was that it's used. I hate it when I forget stuff
like that...
6) If your answer to question 5 was yes - what do you think are some ways to
dispell the mystery.
Heh, I am not sure I want to dispel the mystery to everyone.
7) do you have any good ideas on how to motivate experienced people to do
scribal work?
I don't know about anyone else, but I come away from Tamlyn's scribal
retreats really jazzed about getting back to work. So the idea of getting
a few folks together every now and then to just share ideas and projects
would motivate me really well.
