I don't want to say that this is not a good idea - because in our present
circumstances, it seems like a really good idea.
However,
The AnTir Scribes do have a website.
We all know that the website is not yet what it needs to be - and hopefully,
everyone also knows that it is being worked on.
Here is the current situation.
Since July Coronation - when I became Kingdom Scribe, I have worked
diligently to get assistance from the Server Owner (where the scribal
website resides) to gain access to the site for updating. When
communication was finally started - we worked at it for a week or so (I have
two new programs for accessing ftp sites on my computer now) but alas, I
could not gain access to the site server.
I engaged four Information Technology Professionals from
different businesses to see if it is something on my end that is causing the
failure. Two of them came to my home and worked on my computer and then
went back to their own businesses and tried various things on their
computers. All reported that the problem is at the Server end. This
was all reported to the Server Owner with additional requests for assistance
- however, at this time, the Server Owner has not responded to these
requests for the last 7 weeks or so.
I have started correspondence with the Kingdom Website Team to get space on
the Kingdom Server for the Scribal Website. I do not know if the venture
will be successful.
I received some assistance from an Information Technology Professional in
gathering most of the html files for the site and I do hope to move the
website to a new home soon.
but,
what we have to put on a new home is not up-to-date and is not complete. If
I moved the site today, a number of the links would be broken as I do not
have all the html files for the site and they need to be recreated.
Additionally last weekend, I began updating the "Contacts" pages for the
site - so that when it is moved, those pages will be current (that was an
approximate 10 hour project and is approximately 90% complete)
When the site is ready and does get moved to a new home, I will ask the
scribal community for ideas on what they would like to see added or changed
on the site.
At that time, the information that Tevenete spoke of putting on a Wiki page
should be added to the website.
I have thought about turning off the link to the webpage and putting up a
page that says "Under Construction" - but I am afraid of losing my ability
to see what is there while I still may need to gather info from it.
I have to beg you all for a little more patience - I'm sorry it is taking so
long.
Three reasons for the wait.
1) I wanted to get a message out in the Crier - looking for a Web Minister
(it came out in the October Crier but remember that it had to be in to the
Crier Editor two months before it would be printed [was sent in August].
2) I wanted a Web Minister to do what I am now doing (because I have other
things that need my attention, however, no Web Minister as of yet - but
could not wait any longer to get things moving).
3) I wanted to make what we already had work and tried to give ample
time (for courtesy sake) to the server owner to get it working (The site
would probably already be updated if we had been successful when I started
my attempts to gain access to the site).
Anyway...
thats the long story
Also, I have just within the last few days been in contact with an
individual who may decide to be a web minister for us and that is very
encouraging.
This change over to a new e-mail address for the Kingdom Scribe has put a
big chunk of stuff in the way of other things. I took the day off from work
today to try and move and organize all the past scribal e-mails into this
new venue. I'm excited about it as I think that it will help with some
problems that I have been encountering with technical stuff.
I hope this update has been informative and that you all can still
have patience with me in fixing our website
thank-you
YIS
Bronwen
