-Do you live in a Barony?
Yes, Glymm Mere

-Does your Barony have a Baronial Scribe?
Yes, but we are between scribes.

-Are you a Baronial Scribe?
I was the previous.

-Does your Barony give awards?
Yes, several.

-Are these awards documented with an original scroll or a charter?
They are documented with charters.

-Does your Barony have a Baronial Seal Matrix and make seals from it for documentation?
Yes we do have one, and use it depending on the charter design.

-What do you think a Baronial Scribe does/should do (or what do you do in your capacity as Baronial Scribe)?
As a Baronial scribe, I encouraged people paint charters, kingdom and baronial. I introduced promising scribes to more advanced scribes and ones they could look to for advice and inspiration. I kept track of the number of scrolls people were painting and made sure award recommendations were written for those doing scribal service.  I ensured that there were baronial scrolls that the B&B were proud to give out and sought out the talent of members of the barony to create them. I taught charter painting techniques, and introduced people to calligraphy. Initially, I turned in a quarterly report on my activities.  I made the seals when needed, guarded the baronial seal, made sure there were enough scrolls the handle the awards being given out, filled out all the scrolls, and attempted to fill any backlog or missing scroll requests. I acquired kingdom charters when I could, and ensured that they were passed up the line in time. Also made sure special
projects that the B&B requested were done, and finally protected my scribal community from being abused.

I do feel that there are really two different scribal jobs in a barony, although one person can fill them. The first is the baronial scribe who encourages people to paint scrolls, baronial and kingdom, original or charter. The second is the B&B’s personal scribe who does the calligraphy for the B&B… and may never paint a single thing. This person is not a Baronial officer, but sort of a retinue member… a private secretary of sorts.

-Do you think that every Barony should have a Baronial Scribe?
Yes, but if it is possible, although I would not require it.

your humble servant,
