Have your end of year holidays all planned?:-}
Wynter Retreat is a non-SCA sponsored annual gathering of scribal folk where
we share and learn new techniques, work on projects, laugh, eat, relax,
smile, bring in the new year, and do various scribal-like activities. The
Retreat this year is scheduled December 28 to January 1 at Millersylvania
State Park Environmental Learning Center near Lacey, Washington.
Classes and activities are offered for both new and experienced scribes.
Basic classes include, but are not limited to: Tools & Materials, Scroll
Layout, Basic Calligraphy and Basic Gouache Painting. A sampling of general
classes include: Parchment Processing, Basic Paleography, Flat and Raised
gilding, Whitework, Penwork, Transferring Designs, Tempera Painting,
Manuscript Styles, Pigments to Paints, Limp Parchment Bookbinding, Writing
with a quill, Writing with a Reed & Roman Rustica.
A full Retreat Lodging package (lodging and site fee) is available for $40
as well as a pre-paid Retreat Meal plan for $35. Some classes have fees,
many do not. Class signups are in order of receipt of $15 pre-registration
fee which is required for all. Contacting the Registrar tamlyn at verizon.net
by the Friday (December 21) prior to the event is a requirement for
attendance even if only day tripping - access to the park and specifically
the ELC is restricted during this time of year. Access information will be
relayed directly and not in generalized postings. Please see
http://www.hevanet.com/liesl/Wynter/ for further Retreat information.

PS. ***SPECIAL****: Students who wish to purchase their own pen-knives can
contact Master Cystennin
a-keston at micosoft.com directly with an order - price is $30 per knife.
These knives are hand-made by Cystennin and are very similar to a pen-knife
described by the Museum of London. Dead line for orders is December 1st
(sorry about the short notice, but if you contact him by the end of this
weekend he would probably still take the order).
