CHARTER DESIGN FOR THE REIGN OF SVEN & SIGNY

Greetings good scribes of An Tir! At this time we are looking for charter
designs for the following: Lion’s Cub, AoA’s, Jambes, Gouttes, and the Hasta
Leonis. We are looking for these to be submitted by November 1, 2006.
Please keep the following elements in mind when designing charters.
1. Charter size: 11 X 14 paper, please leave a one-inch border all around.
2. Charter designs may be horizontal or vertical.
3. Please make sure all the lines are dark and thick, at least .5 mm or
thicker so they show up during the copying.
4. Please make sure that no two black lines are closer than 1/16th of an
inch unless they are filled in. 5. Please design charters with clear
elements. This will facilitate painting and embellishing.
6. Charter designs may be borders, panels, top/bottom or both sides. You
may use up to half the page for your design if you so choose. At least half
of the area inside the border is reserved for text, signatures, and seals.
7. Please remember while creating your charter that there should be enough
elements so that each charter has depth and richness. This may be the only
scroll some folks ever receive!
8. Please allow room for the kingdom seal. The great seal impression is
2 -3/4 inches in diameter (seals can be a little larger) . Do not draw in
a circle for the seal. There is also available a smaller signet seal 1 ½ -
2 inches, if your design or text does not allow room for the larger seal.
You may inscribe the word “seal” in the area, but please do not color in the
 area.
9. Leave room for the signatures of the King and Queen. A minimum of
1-1/2 inches high and 2 inches wide for each signature . Please do not write in
Their names. Do not draw a line for Their signatures.
10. Their Highnesses’ wish to have mostly charters of Norse design but
would like to receive a few done in the Landsknecht period style as well. I
have included Landsknecht links graciously supplied by Dame Keterlin at the
end of this missive.
11. If the award carries a badge, please incorporate the badge into the
charter design.
12. If you do not do calligraphy, that’s okay. Please submit and we’ll
arrange for calligraphy to be done. For those who wish to do calligraphy,
please contact me for charter texts.
13. If you plan on doing the calligraphy, allow a full line for recipient’s
name. The date line should have the numeral after A.S. blank, as we will be
beginning a new year during this reign.
Please drop me an email if you are planning on designing a charter so we can
assure that an assortment of award charters is received. When sending
charter designs to me, include your contact information and the source and time
period of your work. This will give the painters a chance to review the
source material for accurate painting.

The woodblock prints done for Maximilian are in three works. The Triumph of
Maximilian contains, The Procession, Arch, and Chariot. There was also a
Funerary procession which I have not looked into at this time. Each of the three
are made up of multiple prints, several hundred in the first two.

I just finished a veritable stack of research for said images and this was
the best source I found. You can click on the images and then get zooms and
prints...
You will want to look up artists Hans Burgkmair, Hans Spriningklee, Albrecht
Durer, Albrecht Altdofer, Lenard (Lohenard & other spellings) Beck, Wolf
Traut, Hans Weiditz, Jorg Kolderer und Hans Sebald Beham, and so on.

is the British museums digital archive of the Triumphal arch. Limited zooms
available and print quality is low.
_http://www.artbma.org/paintedprints/html/pp11.html_ () short information
about colored prints of the arch.

Some nice details from the arch and a brief intro to Durer.

complete collection of these woodcuts, unfortunate bug/limitation with zoom and
print process
