There exist two special volumes in any AFS cell.
root.afs - contains mountpoints to all cells you may want to access, including the local one. Is the volume mounted at /afs (or wherever /usr/vice/etc/cacheinfo indicates it should be mounted).
root.cell - The top level of a given cell, mounted under root.afs. By convention, the readonly copy of this is mounted as /afs/cellname and the readwrite is mounted as /afs/.cellname.
