The AFS client will attempt to keep the system time in sync with a chosen server unless afsd is started with the -nosettime option. It does this by choosing a fileserver it is accessing data from at startup, and keeping within several seconds of that server's time.
If your clients run ntpd for themselves, do not let AFS clients try to sync the time.
