Since Kerberos is tightly integrated with AFS, either through the kaserver or genuine MIT Kerberos, clock skew between fileservers/database servers or between client and server is bad, and can cause problems with authentication. For this reason, a version of ntpd is included with AFS. Some sites manage this through the bosserver.
